Starting Small Is the Key to a Successful Remodeling Job | Home ...

?

Remodeling any room of the house is not really all that difficult as long as you have the knowledge and experience of a professional on your side. There are far too many instances where people have decided to tackle what seemed like a rather simple remodeling job all on their own only to find out that they were in way over their heads. There is a simple reason why construction companies with years of experience are the best choice to handle any type of remodeling job no matter how big or small it may be. They simply know what they are doing. If you think you have what it takes to do a successful remodeling job, then go for it, but you have been warned!

?

Start Small!

It does not matter if you have decided to do the remodeling job yourself, or if you have decided to hire a professional construction company to get the job done for you. The best thing to do, would be to start small. There are only a couple of rooms in your home that you could classify as small. Many people have a very small room where they keep their washing machine and their dryer, but why in the world would you want to remodel this room? This is one room that you really do not spend all that much time in anyways. The only other room in your house that is small would have to be the bathroom. This is a great place to start any remodel. They will give you a great idea of what is involved, and the expenses associated with a smaller remodeling job. This information might be exactly what you need to determine whether or not you want to move forward with other types of remodeling jobs in your home.

?

Even though starting small is the best idea when it comes to remodeling, if you have no experience doing any sort of construction then you need to stay out of the bathroom. There is far too much plumbing in the bathroom to get involved in. This is one area where one simple mistake could wind up flooding your whole house and doing thousands of dollars? worth of damage, and that could end up being a little counterproductive. The whole idea is to make the house a little more livable and flooding the house will not be the slightest bit helpful.

?

This means that you are going to need to locate a construction company to help you handle the remodeling job. Finding a company that handle this type of work can be pretty simple. You can just start searching on the Internet to help you find plenty of great results. You could start by searching for something like, ?bathroom remodeling Fairfax VA.? This should bring back plenty of great results. Once you have a list of results, you just need to determine which construction company is the best for the job. A quick look at their website should give you an idea of whether or not they are qualified for the job.

Toyota signs deal to get Nokias Here Local Search on its incar navigation units from 2014

Nokia's position in the smartphone market may be precarious (if improving), but its Location and Commerce (read: mapping) division has developed quite the reputation. Toyota is the latest big car manufacturer to pay cash to get Nokia's Here Local Search installed on Mr. Toyoda's in-car infotainment units. The Japanese giant is planning to have the software baked into its vehicles in Europe, Russia and the Middle East by early 2014. At the same time, the duo have agreed to work together on how best they can develop Here's navigation potential even further.

Obama's envoy for closing Gitmo prison reassigned

(AP) ? The State Department has reassigned its special envoy for closing the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in another step away from one of President Barack Obama's first campaign promises.

Ambassador Daniel Fried is starting this week as the department's sanctions coordinator, according to an internal notice, focusing on governments like Iran and Syria.

And no one is replacing Fried as lead diplomat to persuade countries to resettle Guantanamo inmates approved for release. Instead, those responsibilities will now transfer to the department's legal office.

The reduced diplomatic effort comes as a military tribunal holds more hearings into the case of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and five other defendants who face almost 3,000 counts of murder. They could get the death penalty if convicted in a trial that is likely at least a year away. Most of this week's proceedings have focused on abstract pretrial legal issues.

Fried helped in the transfer of 40 detainees overseas during his four years as special envoy, assuming the post shortly after Obama first took office and promised to close the much-maligned prison within a year.

But Republican-led bills have since cut off funding to move detainees to foreign countries, and bringing them to the United States has been impossible since Congress blocked Obama's attempt in 2009 to try Mohammed and others accused of war crimes in a civilian court.

The Obama administration still hopes to close Guantanamo and send its remaining 166 inmates elsewhere, but officials say congressional restrictions have left diplomatic efforts severely hampered.

Despite signing last year's federal defense bill, the president criticized further provisions it included that regulated the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists. He called continued Guantanamo restrictions "unwise" and insisted federal courts can successfully prosecute terrorists.

Government gets initial 340 million pounds from Swiss tax deal

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain has received an initial 340 million pounds from the Swiss government as part of a deal to tackle tax evasion that the government expects will net it some 5 billion pounds over the next six years.

Switzerland agreed with Britain last year to impose a one-off levy on money in Britons' secret Swiss bank accounts and to tax future interest payments, with effect from the start of 2013. Germany rejected a similar deal.

Switzerland has been under pressure from the United States, Germany and Britain to clean up its private banking system, which has allowed many wealthy foreign nationals to avoid tax due to its tradition of bank secrecy.

"Last night HMRC (UK tax authorities) received 340 million pounds from the Swiss government, in the first instalment of a deal we have struck," Chancellor George Osborne told parliament. "(This is) the first time in our history that money due in taxes has flowed to this country from Switzerland, rather than the other way round," he added.

Osborne was facing criticism in parliament about his fiscal plans, which are already two years behind on their original goal of eliminating the country's structural budget deficit by 2015. Borrowing in the 2012/13 tax year is forecast to total 108.5 billion pounds, equivalent to 6.9 percent of economic output.

The 340 million pounds is a shade over the 330 million pounds pencilled in to come from this source during the 2012/13 tax year. Some 3.12 billion pounds is expected in the next tax year, and total tax receipts out to 2017/18 are seen at just over 5 billion pounds.

Britain has made tackling tax avoidance by companies as well as individuals a priority for its presidency this year of the G8 group of major advanced economies.

(AP) ? Famed daredevil Nik Wallenda glided 500 feet across a wire suspended 200 feet above the ground on Tuesday, wowing several thousand people below in his hometown of Sarasota.

Without a tether or safety net, Wallenda was the lone figure against a blue sky, aided only by a balancing pole. He made the death-defying stunt look easy, but the performance was anything but simple: it took dozens of circus workers to pull and release the thick black cables that controlled Wallenda's wire as he walked. The morning was windier than expected, and at one point near the end, Wallenda dipped down to one knee on the wire, which led to loud gasps among the crowd.

"I have to get into a zone where I kind of forget about everything else and just focus on what I'm doing," he said shortly before he stepped on the wire. "Fear is a choice but danger is real, and that's very, very true for my line of work."

When Wallenda went to one knee, the drama reached a fever pitch.

"Scary," said Neil Montford, a vacationer from the United Kingdom, while wiping sweat from his brow and looking skyward.

Wallenda, 34, wore a gold cross around his neck and prayed with his wife, children and parents prior to the walk.

"It's my job, it's my career, it's my passion, it's what I love to do," he said.

The Sarasota City Commission allowed the stunt without a tether. Wallenda wore a tether for the first time last summer when he walked across Niagara Falls because the television network that was paying for the performance insisted on it.

Wallenda is a seventh-generation high-wire artist and is part of the famous "Flying Wallendas" circus family. His great-grandfather, Karl Wallenda, fell during a performance in Puerto Rico and died.

But Wallenda wasn't focused on the possibility of tragedy. In the hours before the stunt, Wallenda walked underneath the wire, which was suspended between a crane and a condo in downtown Sarasota. He spoke of his city, of the nearby sparkling bay and how he loved to hear the cheers of the crowd while hundreds of feet up in the air.

New Apple TV with smaller dimensions makes an appearance via FCC filing

New Apple TV with smaller dimensions makes an appearance via an FCC filing

A new Apple TV with model number A1469 just made an appearance in an FCC filing. The only noticeable difference that can be confirmed is the size which looks to be about 5mm smaller than the current generation Apple TV. This could be the Apple TV 3,2 that appeared in the most recent update to the Apple TV.

The FCC filing doesn't show much else other than the fact that the Wi-Fi standards are the same as the current generation Apple TV. Many were speculating that the Apple TV 3,2 could simply be an international model but if the dimensions are indeed different, that may not be the case. FCC filings usually are pretty accurate when it comes to device dimensions and we aren't sure why Apple wouldn't use the same casing to just add support internationally.

Any guesses on what Apple TV 3,2 could be or whether it's different from the A1469 model in the FCC filing?

National Association of Real Estate Editors Announces 2012 Robert ...

Denver ? January 29, 2013 ? (RealEstateRama) ? The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) has named the winners of the Fifth Annual Robert Bruss Real Estate Book Awards. The awards recognize excellence in books published in 2011 on the broad field of real estate.

Author Kalvin Platt won the first place Gold Award in the Bruss competition for his book: ?Master-Planned Communities: Lessons from the Developments of Chuck Cobb,? published by the Urban Land Institute.

NAREE?s judges commented that Platt?s book is ?beautifully designed and illustrated? and ?well organized, clearly written and important? and serves as a ?comprehensive look back on what worked ? and what didn?t ? in early planned communities.?

Platt?s book is ?an important book evaluating the evolution of ?new towns? whose development was guided by one man, unknown to thousands who today live in a diverse range of communities he created. Author Platt overlays ?smart growth? concepts on the original plans and subsequent build-outs to see how well these communities perform today as sustainable and pleasing places to live,? commented one NAREE judge.

Charles Long took the Bruss Silver Award for his book: ?Finance for Real Estate Development,? also published by the Urban Land Institute. Long?s book is a ?terrific look at how real estate development deals work. This book is the first year of business school in your hands,? the judges commented.

Winner of the Bronze Award was Buddy Norman with Jay Papasan, for their book, ?Shift Commercial: How Commercial Brokers Tackle Tough Times,? published by Keller Williams Realty International. ?Written for commercial real estate professionals, the book is a timely how-to guide navigating through today?s prolonged economic downturn,? the NAREE jurors said.

NAREE?s First-Time Author Award winner was Adam Leitman Bailey for the book, ?Finding the Uncommon Deal,? published by Adam Leitman Bailey PC. ?The book is a good up-to-date handbook on the basics of home-buying in today?s market,? the NAREE judges commented.

NAREE esteemed panel of judges have many decades of experience as editors and NAREE leaders. Allen Norwood, freelance editor, HGTV online, retired homes editor, Charlotte Observer and former NAREE vice president, judged the Bruss Book Competition along with two NAREE past presidents: Judith Stark, freelance editor/writer and retired real estate and homes editor, St. Petersburg Times and Carl Larsen, freelance journalist and retired homes section editor, San Diego Union-Tribune.

This year?s winners demonstrate NAREE?s broad reach in real estate from urban planning to finance and commercial and residential real estate. The awards were presented June 22 at NAREE?s 46th Annual Real Estate Journalism Conference in Denver. All of the award winners received cash prizes.

NAREE?s Bruss Book Awards program is named for the late Robert Bruss, syndicated real estate columnist, prolific writer and a longtime NAREE leader. Bruss, who died in 2007, frequently wrote reviews of realty books. The Bruss Book Awards are sponsored by NAREE presidents Leigh Robinson, founder of Express Publishing, and Brad Inman, founder of Inman News, with a special gift from Art Michaels, executor of the Bruss estate.

NAREE, a non-profit association of writers celebrating 83 years of service to real estate writers, was founded in 1929.

Researchers find that heat given off by metropolitan areas can lead to continental-scale winter warming in high latitudes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ? The heat generated by everyday energy consumption in metropolitan areas is significant enough to influence the character of major atmospheric circulation systems, including the jet stream during winter months, and cause continental-scale surface warming in high latitudes, according to a trio of climate researchers that includes Ming Cai, a professor in Florida State University's Department of Meteorology.

Led by Guang Zhang, a research meteorologist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, the scientists report in the journal Nature Climate Change that waste heat released in major cities in the Northern Hemisphere causes as much as 1 degree C (1.8 degrees F) of continental-scale winter warming in high latitudes of the North America and Eurasian continents. They added that this effect helps to explain the disparity between actual observed warming in the last half-century and the amount of warming predicted by computer models that only include anthropogenic greenhouse gases and aerosols.

The study, "Energy Consumption and the Unexplained Winter Warming Over Northern Asia and North America," appears in online editions of the journal on Jan. 27. The study was funded in part by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Program Office.

Cai, Zhang and Aixue Hu of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colo., considered the energy consumption from heating buildings to powering vehicles that generates waste heat release. The world's total energy consumption in 2006 was 16 terawatts (one terawatt equals 1 trillion watts). Of that, 6.7 terawatts were consumed in the 86 metropolitan areas considered in this study.

"The burning of fossil fuel not only emits greenhouse gases but also directly effects temperatures because of heat that escapes from sources like buildings and cars," Hu said.

The release of waste heat is different from energy that is naturally distributed in the atmosphere, the researchers noted. The largest source of heat, solar energy, warms the Earth's surface. Atmospheric circulations distribute that energy from one region to another. Human energy consumption distributes energy that remained dormant and sequestered for millions of years, mostly in the form of oil or coal. Though the amount of human-generated energy is a small portion of that transported by nature, it is highly concentrated in urban areas.

"The world's most populated metropolitan areas, which also have the highest rates of energy consumption, are along the east and west coasts of the North American and Eurasian continents, underneath the most prominent atmospheric circulation troughs and ridges," Cai said. "The concentrated and intensive release of waste energy in these areas causes a noticeable interruption to normal atmospheric circulation systems, leading to remote surface temperature changes far away from the regions where the waste heat is generated."

The authors report that the influence of urban heat can widen the jet stream at the extratropics, or area outside the tropics. They add that the heating is not uniform. Partially counterbalancing it, the changes in major atmospheric systems cool areas of Europe by as much as 1 degree C, with much of the temperature decrease occurring in the fall.

The study does not address whether the urban heating effect disrupts atmospheric weather patterns or plays a role in accelerating global warming, though Zhang said drawing power from renewable sources such as solar or wind provides a societal benefit in that it does not add net energy into the atmosphere.

Zhang said the climate impact this research studied is distinct from the so-called urban heat island effect, an increase in the warmth of cities compared to unpopulated areas caused by land use changes. Such island effects are mainly a function of the heat collected and re-radiated by pavement, buildings and other urban features.

"What we found is that energy use from multiple urban areas collectively can warm the atmosphere remotely, thousands of miles away from the energy consumption regions," Zhang said. "This is accomplished through atmospheric circulation change."

They also find observational evidence indicates that the waste heat can be the "missing forcing" that would account for the discrepancy between the observed temperature change and that is simulated in computer models forced only by anthropogenic greenhouse gases and aerosols. They suggest that the influence of energy consumption should be considered, in addition to heat-trapping gases and aerosols, as necessary anthropogenic factors in computer models to predict the future climate.

Sotology ? Auto Insurance Basics

The amount of drivers on the road increases each year. This could lead to an increased likelihood of a car accident for you and your family. If you get in a car wreck, the auto insurance you own can make a big difference in how much you have to pay. So how can you figure out what insurance you need and how much you should buy? Required coverage varies by state/province but usually includes the following: Liability: Pays for the expenses you have caused to others in a car collision, including injury and property damage. It also covers your defense and court costs if you are sued. Local laws usually mandate minimum amounts of liability insurance, but higher amounts are available and usually recommended. Personal Injury Protection: Personal injury insurance is mandated in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also cover lost earnings, service replacement and funeral expenses. The minimum amount of this insurance is typically set by local government. Medical Payments: This type of coverage can be purchased in states that are not considered no-fault and will pay regardless of who is responsible for an accident. If this type of coverage is purchased, the insured person will receive coverage for all types of medical and funeral expenses. Collision: This pays for damages to your vehicle caused by an accident. Comprehensive: Cover your vehicle from all non-collision damages by purchasing this type of coverage. This may include protection from burglary, vandalism, and weather damage. Uninsured Motorist: If you are in an accident with an uninsured driver, this type of insurance will make sure you are covered. Under-Insured Motorist: Similar to uninsured motorist protection, this kind of insurance protects you against people driving without sufficient insurance coverage. Other types of coverage, like car rental, are also available. Homeowners Insurance Mississauga ON

Friar accused of abuse in 2 states kills self

(AP) ? A Franciscan friar accused of sexually abusing students at Catholic high schools in Ohio and Pennsylvania killed himself at a western Pennsylvania monastery, police said Saturday.

Brother Stephen Baker, 62, was found dead of self-inflicted wounds at the St. Bernardine Monastery in Hollidaysburg on Saturday morning, Blair Township Police Chief Roger White told the Associated Press. He declined to specify the type of wounds or say whether a note was found.

Baker was named in legal settlements last week involving 11 men who alleged that he sexually abused them at a Catholic high school in northeast Ohio three decades ago. The undisclosed financial settlements announced Jan. 16 involved his contact with students at John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, Ohio from 1986-90.

The Youngstown diocese previously said it was unaware of the allegations until nearly 20 years after the alleged abuse.

"Let us continue to pray for all victims of abuse, for Brother Baker's family and the repose of his soul," Youngstown Bishop George Murray said in a statement Saturday.

After the settlements were announced, the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese in central Pennsylvania said it received complaints in 2011 of possible abuse by Baker at Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Bishop McCort High School hired an attorney to investigate after several former students alleged they were molested by Baker in the 1990s. Attorney Susan Williams said three former students had talked to her in detail about the alleged abuse.

Baker taught and coached at John F. Kennedy High School in the late 1980's and early 1990's and was at Bishop McCort from 1992-2000.

Bishop Mark Bartchak of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese said in a statement that he was saddened by the news of Baker's death, but declined further comment citing pending legal action involving the diocese.

A message left for Father Patrick Quinn, the head of Baker's order, the Third Order Regular Franciscans, was not immediately returned.

Judy Jones, assistant Midwest director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, said the organization still hopes people who know about other abuse allegations against Baker will continue to come forward.

"We feel sad for Br. Baker's family but even sadder for the dozens of boys who Baker assaulted," she said in a statement.

Obama birth control mandates loosens lawsuits

NEW YORK (AP) ? The legal challenges over religious freedom and the birth control coverage requirement in President Barack Obama's health care overhaul appear to be moving toward the U.S. Supreme Court.

Faith-affiliated charities, hospitals and universities have filed dozens of lawsuits against the mandate, which requires employers to provide insurance that covers contraception for free. However, many for-profit business owners are also suing, claiming a violation of their religious beliefs.

The religious lawsuits have largely stalled, as the Department of Health and Human Services tries to develop an accommodation for faith groups. However, no such offer will be made to individual business owners. And their lawsuits are yielding conflicting rulings in appeals courts around the country.

"The circuits have split. You're getting different, conflicting interpretations of law, so the line of cases will have to go to the Supreme Court, " said Carl Esbeck, a professor at the University of Missouri Law School who specializes in religious liberty issues.

Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that Obama's fiercely contested health care overhaul, known as the Affordable Care Act, was constitutional. But differences over the birth control provision in the law have yet to be resolved.

Under the requirement, most employers, including faith-affiliated hospitals and nonprofits, have to provide health insurance that includes artificial contraception, including sterilization, as a free preventive service. The goal, in part, is to help women space pregnancies as a way to promote health.

Religious groups who employ and serve people of their own faith ? such as churches ? are exempt. But other religiously affiliated groups, such as Catholic Charities, must comply.

Roman Catholic bishops, evangelicals and some religious leaders who have generally been supportive of Obama's policies have lobbied fiercely for a broader exemption. The Catholic Church prohibits the use of artificial contraception. Evangelicals generally permit the use of birth control, but they object to specific methods such as the morning-after contraceptive pill, which they argue is tantamount to abortion.

Obama promised to change the birth control requirement so insurance companies and not faith-affiliated employers would pay for the coverage, but religious leaders said more changes were needed to make the plan work.

The Health and Human Services Department said it could not comment on litigation. A spokeswoman also did not respond to a question about when the latest revisions in the birth control rule would be made public.

However, government attorneys responding to a lawsuit said an announcement was expected by the end of March. In the suit filed by the evangelical Wheaton College in Illinois and Catholic Belmont Abbey in North Carolina, the court ordered government attorneys to provide a progress report on the new rule every 60 days. Whatever its final form, the mandate will take effect for religious groups in August.

At the center of the cases is the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the 1993 law that bars the government from imposing a substantial burden on the exercise of religion for anything other than a compelling government interest pursued in the least restrictive way. The question of how or whether these criteria apply when owners of for-profit businesses have a religious objection to a government policy hasn't been fully tested.

"It's more natural for people to say Notre Dame exercises religion, but when you say this power tool company exercises religion, you have to explain it little more, I think the claims are really the same," said Kyle Duncan, general counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which represents many of the plaintiffs.

Brigitte Amiri, senior staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union, argued the business owners are trying to use a religious liberty claim to deny benefits to someone else.

"We don't think that religious liberty claims can be used as a way to discriminate against women employees ? using those claims to take away someone else's benefits and services," Amiri said.

In the lawsuits from faith-affiliated groups, such as the University of Notre Dame, judges around the country have generally said it would be premature to decide the legal issues until the federal rule for religiously affiliated organizations is finalized.

In the cases involving business owners, judges have granted temporary injunctions to businesses in nine of 14 cases they've heard, while questions about for-profit employers and religious rights are decided, according to a tally by the Becket Fund.

In a case brought by Cyril and Jane Korte, Catholic owners of Korte & Luitjohan Contractors in Illinois, a three-judge panel granted a temporary injunction, ruling 2-1 that providing employees insurance coverage that includes birth control would violate the Kortes' faith.

"It is a family-run business, and they manage the company in accordance with their religious beliefs," the judges wrote.

The dissenting judge argued that the company will not be paying directly for contraception but instead will purchase insurance that covers a wide range of health care that could include birth control, if the woman decides with her physician that she needs it.

"What the Kortes wish to do is to preemptively declare that their company need not pay for insurance which covers particular types of medical care to which they object," the dissenting judge wrote.

Similar reasoning was used by courts denying an injunction requested by the arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby and religious book-seller Mardel Inc., which are owned by the same evangelical family. Oklahoma-based Hobby Lobby calls itself a "biblically founded business" and is closed on Sundays.

The U.S. district judge who first considered the request said, "Hobby Lobby and Mardel are not religious organizations."

"Plaintiffs have not cited, and the court has not found, any case concluding that secular, for-profit corporations such as Hobby Lobby and Mardel have a constitutional right to the free exercise of religion," the ruling said.

Chelsea player charged by FA for kicking ball boy

LONDON (AP) ? The English Football Association charged Chelsea winger Eden Hazard on Friday for kicking a ball boy, a move that could add extra games to his three-match ban for violent conduct.

After reviewing footage, the FA said the standard suspension would be "clearly insufficient" and gave Hazard until Tuesday to respond to the charge.

Hazard was sent off Wednesday for kicking a ball boy in the 79th minute of the League Cup semifinal match against Swansea. The Belgian winger attempted to retrieve the ball after it had rolled out of play.

The 17-year-old ball boy refused to return the ball promptly and dropped down on top of it. Hazard aimed a kick underneath the teenager to release the ball.

Hazard and ball boy Charlie Morgan apologized to each other after the match and were spoken to by police. Morgan's family doesn't intend to press charges.

South Wales Police said Friday they were no longer involved in the matter, having been obliged to follow up after three complaints by members of the public.

In the FA's statement, the governing body said it will be reminding "all clubs of their responsibilities in ensuring ball boys and other personnel around the pitch act in an appropriate manner at all times."

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said he was eager to move on.

"On a personal note I find it remarkable that there is any thought of police action," Jenkins said Friday. "Things are done in the heat of the moment and probably everybody looks back and wishes things had been done differently. We accept how things are and all move forward."

Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez said any disciplinary action taken against Hazard by the club was an "internal" matter.

Fantastic Recommendations To Assistance You Perform By means ...

If you have had any of your possessions repossessed by the IRS, personal bankruptcy may be an option for you. Although bankruptcy tends to destroy a person?s credit, it?s occasionally the only available option. To find out more about bankruptcy and what it entails, view the following article.

Do not omit any information about your finances, assets or debts when filling out your bankruptcy paperwork. Omissions or errors may cause your case to take more time to resolve, or even be rejected entirely. The most meaningless, innocuous finance or expenditure needs to be listed when you file a claim. Some things to be included are: current loans, valuable vehicles and side jobs.

Compile a list of the money your currently owe. After this, you can file bankruptcy, so make sure this document is accurate. Make sure you go through your records and be sure about the exact amounts. Don?t be careless about this step, as discharge depends on submitting the correct numbers to the court.

Chose the proper moment to make your move. When filing for personal bankruptcy, it is very important that you act at the correct time. In some cases, you should file for bankruptcy right away, but in others, there may be reasons why filing quickly would be a bad idea. Speak with bankruptcy attorneys for a time frame for filing with your situation.

If you plan on filing for bankruptcy, never transfer your assets to another person within one year of filing. Blatantly attempting to hide assets can result in the dismissal of your case. Certain assets are untouchable by creditors. If you have transferred assets recently for legitimate reasons, you will have to wait the required time period before filing for bankruptcy. Attempting to hide assets from the bankruptcy court can only backfire.

After going through bankruptcy, a lot of people think they are being financially responsible if they shun all forms of credit. This is actually a poor idea because credit helps to build good credit. If you don?t ever use credit, your credit history will not improve, and you may not be able to purchase important things like a home and car. One credit card is adequate to begin rebuilding your credit rating.

Don?t kick this can down the road. Delaying the process will not make things better if you have no other choice. Postponing it will only prolong your stress and worsen your current financial situation. Your whole life can be negatively effected. Preceding with the bankruptcy resolutely and concluding the proceedings quickly will bring closure to the entire situation.

Do your research before hiring a bankruptcy attorney. This kind of law is usually where inexperienced attorney?s reside. Try to get a lawyer that has a lot of experience and one that is properly licensed. The Internet can be helpful in investigating an attorney?s disciplinary record, client ratings, and background.

Although it may be difficult to get financing after filing for bankruptcy, it will not be impossible by any means. This is partially true, but your score could be higher than it was before filing. It is important that you make timely payments once you have filed, in order to increase your credit score.

After reading this article, you will know how to file a claim bankruptcy. Don?t stress about the amount of information before you. Take a few moments to ruminate upon these tips. When you think things through, you make good decisions in life.

Retailers Are Using 5 Brilliant Tactics To Outsmart ... - Business Insider

socialcommercesumchilogo_edited-1.jpgLearn the latest strategies in e-commerce and social media at Social Commerce Summit on February 6, 2013, in New York. Speakers include Walmart, Rue La La, TripAdvisor and other major brands, startups and VCs. Reserve your ticket now.

Amazon makes a lot of brick-and-mortar retailers nervous.?

"They're increasingly pushing in-store sales online, where they're almost inevitably cheaper," Karl Heiselman, the CEO of Wolff Olins, told us. "Even retailers like Best Buy and Target have created Amazon price-matching policies.?

Heiselman, whose consulting company helps build brands, told us five ways that major retailers are outsmarting Amazon.?

By bringing the best of Amazon into their own stores

"Walmart recently began offering a service that lets people pay online and pick up in stores," Heiselman said. "Since implemented, more than half the sales from Walmart's website are picked up from stores." Walmart took the convenience of Amazon and found a way to implement it in its stores.?

Making shopping an experience

"Retailers need an engaging offline strategy to get customers in stores and keep them coming back," Heiselman said.?

Having better merchandise than Amazon

Target achieved this through its Missoni collection, an exclusive collection of designer-branded merchandise that quickly sold out. Heiselman also cited Target's "Everyday Collection" campaign, which "transformed a dull, yet necessary, retail experience into an energetic and memorable one."?

Creating communities that provide editorial content?

This could exist through consumer reviews and more. The retailers could also include professional editorial reviews, along with a way for customers to easily buy the product, Heiselman said.?

Make employees happy?

"Costco is known for nailing this," Heiselman said. "The average employee earns twice that of Walmart, and as a result they see lower turnover and better-trained staff." Great customer service is a key way for retailers to beat Amazon, so keeping employees happy is important.?

McDonough no stranger to Obama inner circle

WASHINGTON (AP) ? In selecting Denis McDonough to be his next and fifth chief of staff, President Barack Obama is tapping a longtime confidant and unflappable ally to be his gatekeeper to the personalities and challenges that will confront him in his second term.

Obama announced Friday that McDonough, now one of the president's closest national security advisers, will replace outgoing White House chief of staff Jack Lew, whom Obama has nominated for the treasury secretary.

McDonough, 43, becomes the latest link in a chain of staffers elevated to key roles in the Obama White House following years of service within the president's closely guarded inner circle. The risk-averse strategy keeps Obama in his comfort zone and ensures that those setting the tone for the administration are in tight harmony with his way of thinking.

"The president trusts him ? perhaps more than anyone else in the White House. And I think he knows the president's mind perhaps better than anyone else in the White House," said John Podesta, who served as President Bill Clinton's chief of staff and co-chaired Obama's transition team. Podesta worked closely with McDonough both in former Sen. Tom Daschle's office and at the Center for American Progress, a think tank with close ties to the White House.

A native of Stillwater, Minn., McDonough obtained a master's degree from Georgetown University in 1996 and soon became a foreign policy staffer in the House, then later in the Senate under Daschle, the top Senate Democrat at the time. Like so many of the president's senior aides, his work for Obama started during the 2008 campaign, where he served as a foreign policy aide and was a senior adviser on the transition team. In 2009, he became the chief of staff for Obama's national security staff.

Announcing his choice on Friday in the White House, Obama said McDonough was not only one of his closest advisers but also one of his closest friends, recounting the "countless crises" during the first term that had engrossed McDonough at all hours of the day.

"I've actually begun to think that Denis likes pulling all-nighters," Obama said to knowing laughter from fellow staffers in the East Room. "The truth is nobody outworks Denis McDonough."

Current and former White House staffers describe McDonough as an exceptionally hard worker with deep loyalty to the president. Highly regarded by fellow White House staffers, McDonough has a deep well of experience navigating tough national security issues; he is among the top officials photographed with Obama in the situation room in 2011 as Navy SEALs carried out the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

But McDonough is also known for putting a human touch on his demanding job, occasionally sending handwritten thank-you notes to co-workers for their help on projects or foreign trips.

"You often find in Washington people very skillful on substance. You have very good people on the politics of people. It's a fairly rare staffer who combines the two," said former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind., who employed McDonough as a foreign policy adviser in the 1990s and described his demeanor as calm and reasonable. "Firm, commanding in a sense. He had command of the facts without being offensive in any way."

That's important, because Obama has made no secret of his preference for a low-key work environment, free of the drama and clash of personalities that can so often distract from the pursuit of a policy agenda.

Obama's first chief of staff, current Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, was known more for volatility than cool-headedness. And some administration officials still bristle at the president's attempt to bring in an outsider for the chief of staff job ? Bill Daly, who replaced Emanuel but only lasted about a year before leaving Washington. McDonough is expected to be more in the mold of Lew, the even-keeled budget guru who, like McDonough, had already amassed a lengthy Washington resume before becoming Obama's chief of staff.

But what McDonough boasts in foreign policy expertise he lacks when it comes to domestic policy, which encompasses the bulk of the major issues the president will confront as his second term gets under way. Looming over the start of McDonough's term as chief of staff are a set of fiscal showdowns over debt and government spending, a heated campaign for gun control legislation and a major push for comprehensive immigration reform.

Although McDonough's portfolio has been national security, he is involved in daily senior staff meetings at the White House that often focus on domestic issues. Last year, when the White House was embroiled in an internal debate over a mandate requiring religious organizations to offer contraception coverage, McDonough, a Catholic and one of 11 children, was among a handful of aides who raised concerns.

Obama is expected to surround McDonough with aides who have broader experience on domestic issues and congressional negotiations ? most notably Rob Nabors, Obama's legislative director and chief negotiator with Capitol Hill, who the president tapped Friday to become his new deputy chief of staff for policy.

"He does not have the kind of background that Jack Lew had in budget matters, so he'll have to bring on board some very knowledgeable people," said Hamilton. "He probably already has."
