NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Fox has ordered a second season of the new Kevin Bacon serial killer drama "The Following" and the freshman comedy "The Mindy Project," as well as new seasons of the sitcoms "New Girl" and "Raising Hope."
"New Girl" will return for a third season, and "Raising Hope" for a fourth.
Fox has had high hopes for "The Following," which has earned decent ratings since its much-hyped January debut. Network entertainment president Kevin Reilly has said he believes it could be an Emmy contender. Its second season, like its first, will be 15 episodes.
"From the very beginning, we felt Kevin Williamson and Marcos Siega had created a high-quality, edge-of-your-seat drama that could break from the pack, and it is exciting to see the audience responding," Reilly said in a statement Monday. "Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy have given us two of the most compelling characters on television and the entire cast is incredible. I'm delighted to have this thrill ride continue on FOX for another season."
Fox is also currently negotiating for a fifth season of "Glee," which is expected to be announced soon.
The comedy pickups help solidify Fox's Tuesday night comedy lineup. While "New Girl" was a hit from the start, "New Girl" and "Raising Hope" have occasionally struggled for ratings.
"We love working with these talented producers and casts who, week after week, create some of the funniest work on television," said Reilly. "These shows are creatively vibrant, they have established a loyal and passionate audience and they will continue to define and grow the FOX comedy brand next season and beyond."
