Jute Interior Design

Hello my dears, and welcome to a fresh new week! I am excited to get started today with this look into the portfolio of Mill Valley, California based Jute Interior Design. I was immediately impressed by the relaxed, family-friendly yet totally chic vibe of the spaces this firm has worked on, and I think you will love it, too.

Founded by Alison Davin, Jute is unique in its focus on truly livable spaces: their motto is ?Antiques, Art and Modern Family Life: Comfortably Compatible?, which really speaks volumes, don?t you think? I don?t know about you, but I get a little weary of designer spaces that look way too perfect and stiff for a real family to live there.

Alison and her team work with real families to create comfortable, cozy, welcoming homes that feel as though they came together organically over time. Layers of texture, the patina of old wood, antique treasures that are not too precious for small children to clamber over, and workhorse fabrics that will stand up to a bit of natural wear and tear are some of their signatures. I love that they recommend investing in art because it adds bling to your home while still being out of reach of children. So true! A painting on the wall is a much better investment than fine china or even a fancy electronic gadget, as anyone with young kids can attest. Anything within reach can end up broken or worse?in the toilet! Hmn, not that that?s been happening around here a lot or anything.

I was absolutely gobsmacked by that nursery above, isn?t it spectacular? I want that teepee! And the amazing crate-like shelving unit, and the rugs, and mini table and stools and, well, basically if I could transport it all into my home right now I would. And Jute does such a lovely job with art selection, I was glad to find this page where they?ve rounded up links to some of their favorite artists, galleries and sculptors, so check that out for more info on sourcing.

Above are a few shots of the Jute studio in Mill Valley. Yummy, right? Makes me really miss home and family, because I grew up just across the bay in Alameda and lived, worked, and played in the area for many years. You can visit Jute Interior Design for more information on their services, or to see the rest of their portfolio. You can also visit Jute over on Houzz, which is where I first came across them while working on an upcoming column.

I hope your week is off to a good start ? to be honest, I have a few family members who are quite ill and/or injured right now, so if you have a moment to keep us in your thoughts I would be so grateful. I have some good things in store this week, including a preview/review of a soon-to-be-published book from one of my favorite creative ladies, and of course more delicious interior inspiration, so come back soon. : ) xo Laura
