Brazil is one of the fastest growing countries in the world and in line with that its social media is also one of the fastest growing. There are more than 46 million Brazilians online and 97 per cent of these use social media according to comScore?s ?2012 Brazil Digital Future in Focus? report in iMedia. While usage of the internet is more common in the bigger Brazilian cities, by 2016 between 70-80 per cent of the population will have internet access.
Facebook is the most popular social media network in Brazil since it overtook Google?s Orkut in 2011. The site has grown by 250 per cent in Brazil over the last four years. Brazil is now the second biggest Facebook market in the world with 51 million users.
Twitter is also extremely popular in Brazil. It has around 33.3 million users, making the country the second biggest user of Twitter in the world. On top of this, numbers are growing on Twitter by around 40 per cent a year!
Brazil is the third highest nation of users for Google +. While YouTube reaches 79 per cent of the countries internet users.
LinkedIn launched in Portuguese in 2010 and opened an office there in 2011 to cater for the increasing number of users.
So with all of this in mind, why is social media so popular in Brazil?
A study in 2011 by Oh! revealed that 61.4 per cent of Brazilians look for information about products on social media pages before buying. 79 per cent said that they had more confidence buying a product after seeing feedback about it on a friend?s social media page.
Unlike the other BRIC countries, Brazil is not faced with as many restrictions or complications when it comes to social media enabling them to become a leader in the field!
